Hardware maintenance

This page consolidates the cases from the hardware-maintenance supplement and the face-recognition hardware operations notes. It covers gates, access devices, face-recognition terminals, permission/synchronization/channel boards, power supplies, switches, and fiber links.

Names such as “permission board”, “channel board”, “synchronization board”, and “switching board” follow the source cases. Confirm the actual labels on the installed hardware. This page supports field triage and records; it does not replace the vendor manual, electrical-safety rules, or fire-safety requirements.

Safety boundary

Power off before unplugging boards, connectors, or optical modules. Confirm wiring, terminals, and covers before restoring power. Fire-line work, mains power, power-supply replacement, gate mechanics, and access-control safety must be handled by authorized maintainers. Use the device label and vendor specification as the source of truth; do not raise or replace a supply based only on an approximate “12V” rule.

Before maintenance

  1. Record the site, device identifier, time, indicators, and board error codes.
  2. Determine whether the issue affects one channel/device or several at the same time.
  3. Inspect power, network, signal, synchronization lines, connectors, and mechanical obstructions before opening the device.
  4. If power must be removed, save the current configuration and symptom first.
  5. After restoring power, wait for self-test, network recovery, and heartbeat before running a real test.

Gates, access devices, and movement hardware

Recognition succeeds but the gate does not open

  1. Check whether the permission board is powered and its indicators are normal.
  2. Check the signal line for breaks or loose terminals. Replace damaged wiring rather than treating tape as a permanent repair.
  3. Check both ends of the synchronization line. If the synchronization board shows an error such as 53, start with the line and connector base.
  4. If one channel recognizes but does not respond and the gate does not self-test after reboot, inspect the permission board. If the channel board shows a numeric error, inspect the upper and lower infrared pairs.
  5. For a motor-without-power symptom, verify power to each board, the connectors, and the connector bases. Power off before reseating them, then wait for power and network recovery before testing.

The gate does not close, closes slowly, or lets one person pass repeatedly

  • Check for luggage, the door leaf, or another obstruction in the gate opening.
  • If an older library gate closes slowly, check whether the infrared sensor has shifted and adjust its position.
  • For slow library-gate response, adjust the closing time in the switching-board console. If that does not help, check infrared-sensor failure, sensor order on the board, and switching-line contact.
  • If repeated face scans allow one person through without closing, turn off memory mode with switch 3 according to the installed hardware label, then power-cycle the gate. Re-test single-person passage and infrared safety behavior.

Multiple channels open or indicators flash

If all channels still open after reboot and the front/rear indicators flash, inspect whether the permission-board fire line is open. Fire-system work and restoration must be performed by an authorized maintainer, followed by a safety-state check on every channel.

Magnetic locks, vehicle barriers, and mechanical structure

  • Weak or absent magnetic-door holding force: check controller power and whether the magnet has shifted; correct the alignment or replace the controller as required.
  • Vehicle barrier does not lift: check loose controller interfaces and verify the mapping between network-switch COM/ON and barrier VCC/open terminals.
  • Broken gate post: the thread at the break is usually damaged. Use a slightly larger screw or a longer screw of the same type, then confirm that the structure is stable and safe.
  • Loose gate body: some sites use construction adhesive. Open the bottom cover, remove dust, and re-fix it using the approved method. Protect the edges if exterior adhesive is needed so that later service remains possible.

Dark screen or no display on one side

  1. Check the 12V supply and its connector for poor contact.
  2. Follow the power cable to intermediate connectors and terminals; power off before reseating them.
  3. For a one-sided display failure, inspect the supply indicator and measure voltage and current with a multimeter.
  4. If the readings are abnormal, use a correctly rated replacement supply. “It lights up” is not enough; verify the rated parameters.

Freezing, crashing, or automatic restart

  • For a lagging screen, power-cycle once. If the symptom returns, continue with power, thermal, and network checks instead of repeatedly rebooting.
  • If the face device freezes after an upgrade, confirm that configuration and credentials can be restored, then follow the vendor procedure for factory reset and reconfiguration.
  • For automatic restarts, measure the supply voltage. The source case says it must not be below 12V, but the allowed upper limit and fluctuation must come from the device label, adapter, and vendor specification.

Low recognition efficiency

Adjust the device mode for the actual lighting, mounting position, and environment. One source case recovered after switching away from the indoor mode. Re-test the same person from the same position and record the selected mode and result instead of judging from one scan.

Authentication keeps failing

Check the network cable between the face device and switch, along with the switch indicators. Re-terminate or replace the connector when the link is abnormal, then confirm that the device address, service address, and authentication settings belong to the same environment.

Switches, optical modules, and network

Switch optical-port light is off

  1. Swap the optical module for a controlled comparison.
  2. Use a light source to test the fiber path.
  3. Confirm that the equipment room has power.
  4. Check the fiber tail for breakage, excessive bending, or a loose connector.

Face device has no network

Confirm that the switch itself is operating, then reseat the optical module and observe the link indicators. If the link remains unavailable, check the cable, device address, service address, port, and network isolation. A lit link indicator does not prove that the system heartbeat and business endpoint are working.

Acceptance after repair

After every replacement, reseat, reset, or adjustment, complete at least these checks:
